Earlier this week a Pre-tasting of Red Beans N’ Rice was held at the St. Tammany Parish Fire District #1 Central Firehouse in Slidell. Chef/Captain Tyrone Collins prepared some great-tasting Camellia beans for a group of about 15 United Way visitors and his firehouse squad. On hand were the East Committee members Chris Kaufmann, Chair & STP FD#1 Fire Chief, Kevin Swann, Co-Chair, Gene Bellisario, Joe DiGiovanni, Linda Larkin, Jo Ann Chelchowski, Mayor Freddie Drennan, Founding Chair and Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal, 2017 Honorary Chair and Emcee Ashley Rodrigue, WWL.
United Way of Southeast Louisiana will once again Kick-Off the 2017 – 2018 St. Tammany Parish Campaign with Red Beans N Rice Cook-Offs in East and West sides of the parish. First up is the Eighth Annual West Cook-Off on Monday, July 31st from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Northlake Christian School Gym, 70104 Wolverine Dr., Covington, LA 70433, that’s one mile off Hwy 190 & Three Rivers Road. Over 26 teams have signed up to vie for the title of Best Beans. Tickets are $10 for all you can eat and or Drive-Thru or Take-Out are also options. If you come inside for the fun, you can see who wins People’s Choice, Community Spirit, Best Decorated Booth and Favorite Dessert. You might also win a great door prize or raffle. The next Monday, August 7th come out where it all began at the Slidell City Auditorium for the 13th Annual East St. Tammany Cook-Off at 2056 Second St., Slidell, LA 70458 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Maybe you can attempt to try beans from the 30 different teams who have signed up for the competition.
