My name is Kate and I’m a student at Tulane. Over the past few months, I’ve been working with United Way of Southeast Louisiana as a component of my Women’s Legislative Leadership class. As part of my research, I looked at the state of mental health care accessibility in Louisiana and wanted to share my findings as we enter Mental Health Awareness Month.
At the end of a four-day shopping extravaganza that includes Black Friday, ShopLocal Saturday and Cyber Monday, a more recent “Global Day” is taking place. Giving Tuesday is a day of giving back. On this day, today, December 1st, individuals around the world will come together to celebrate the spirit of giving and generosity.
United Way’s Alexis de Tocqueville Society exemplifies big hearted people. The international philanthropic society was named for the Frenchman Alexis Charles Henri Maurice Clerel de Tocqueville, who critiqued our country’s evolving political and social structure in ‘Democracy in America’ (1835 and 1840) and declared himself most impressed with Americans’ generosity.
