Home at Last for Ms. Durette!
We are hard at work moving families home! On Wednesday, June 22, United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area and partners hosted a house dedication for Ms. Marie Durette.
Ms. Durette is 94 years old. She and her daughter, Signoria, shared a double shotgun house in Orleans parish – Ms. Durette on one side, her daughter on the other. After Hurricane Katrina destroyed their homes, the two women once again lived side by side – this time in FEMA trailers, lined up next to one another.
Now, with Ms. Durette’s side of the house complete, and Signoria’s home almost finished, the family can truly be home once again.
United Way’s Nonprofit Rebuilding Pilot Program*, in partnership with Phoenix of New Orleans (PNOLA), made the rebuilding of Ms. Durette’s home possible.
