Benjamin Franklin High School takes home the 2017 Mission Ignition Crown this year with 1,143 hours of community service! This marks the 3rd time in 5 years that Benjamin Franklin High School has won this award, totaling an estimated $116,000 value in service hours to the community overall. Participants were rewarded with a pizza party provided by Domino's Pizza and will have bragging rights for exactly one calendar year. 
Over 3,000 students across the New Orleans Metro Area competed for the most service hours as part of a program called Mission Ignition. In its fifth year, Mission Ignition was originally presented to United Way of Southeast Louisiana by the student leadership at Lusher Charter School and Benjamin Franklin High School. The program was an effort to encourage a sense of community through friendly competition around adopting a philanthropic lifestyle. Joint activities such as school beautification projects, youth mentorship, and park cleanups help to complement graduation requirements by engaging in collaborative work on behalf of our community as a whole.
Schools that participated include Lusher Charter School, Haynes Academy, Thomas Jefferson High School, Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy, Grace King High School, and Riverdale High School. Thank you to all of our participants for showing what it means to Live United!
