St. Tammany Regional Office

Welcome!

United Way has a strong history in the St. Tammany community. Many benefit from our investment and impact in the parish.

Since 2011, United Way has helped residents of St. Tammany Parish receive nearly 137,000 health and human services. Last year alone, people here were assisted more than 36,000 times.

Our findings in a recent statewide report on Poverty reveals that almost 40% of St. Tammany Parish families are not earning enough to just “get by”.  These families are people that you say hello to everyday – it could be the bus driver who takes your children to school, the cashier at the supermarket or the barista at your favorite coffee shop.

These families, know as ALICE - Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employeed - are struggling to meet their most basic needs depend on the services we fund.  Our study shows that the average household family budget barely meets monthly costs and does not allow for any savings leaving them
vulnerable to emergencies.

In addition, our state is facing a severe budget crisis and we know cuts will be made affecting services throughout our region.  This will mean that more people will need services where there may be less resources available.

Your generosity is more crucial than ever. Your continued donation will help fund critically needed United Way supported services and provide help for those in crisis.

United Way partners with St. Tammany Parish Government, Volunteers of America and 2-1-1 on a public awareness campaign for the St. Tammany Parish Suicide Prevention Support Program. Each year United Way invests in case management and informational services for those contemplating suicide.

The United Way partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has resulted in more than 26,000 age appropriate books mailed to young children free of charge with a goal of creating a life-long love for reading.

Partnering with the New Orleans Saints enabled United Way to send nearly 500 St. Tammany youth to the Community Patrol Summer Camp. There, they learned anger management skills and the importance of teamwork and physical fitness through football.

Our FamilyWize discount prescription card initiative has helped residents save nearly $576,000. And, our partnership to offer free tax service, through our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, has helped pump more than $293,00 back in to St. Tammany’s economy.

Through our special events we have provided additional support to the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany, Silent Angels Christmas Program, other United Way partner agencies and programs already mentioned.

In all, during these past four years, United Way has invested over $2.5 million back into the St. Tammany community.

United Way is a volunteer led organization. Our Board of Trustees and St. Tammany Leadership Council, made up of members from St. Tammany and across our seven parish service area, represent companies such as Shell, Entergy, Whitney Bank, LOOP, LATTER and BLUM, and Enterprise, to name a few.

And, like you, they collectively understand that children who succeed in school are more likely to become healthy and productive adults and have financially stable families. That’s why United Way continues to invest in programs promoting education, health and economic opportunity.

United Way celebrates being part of a team and culture that continues to help change lives and shape communities. We urge businesses, individuals and government to join in developing cooperative strategies and partnerships focused on the elimination of poverty. It is possible. Together we can create a stronger, better St. Tammany and southeast Louisiana for the future.
