Tricentennial Volunteer Challenge

To celebrate 300 years of rich history, diversity, cultural traditions and resilience, the City of New Orleans will celebrate 2018 and its Tricentennial like no other.  To accomplish this, Mayor Mitchell Landrieu formed the 2018 NOLA Commission to allow input for events and programs that will honor the anniversary of the founding of New Orleans.  A variety of special events, concerts, fireworks and completion of major infrastructure projects will take place in 2018.

The 2018 NOLA Foundation and the Tricentennial Commission Community Engagement Committee in partnership with United Way of Southeast Louisiana, HandsOn New Orleans and Network Volunteers is launching the city’s yearlong Tricentennial Volunteer Challenge, 300,000 for the Next 300.

The 300,000 for the Next 300 volunteer challenge will honor the work of Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Keller, Edith Stern and countless other civil rights activists by making improvements to schools and community buildings and spaces. This challenge aims to engage residents and tourists to accumulate 300,000 hours of service through 300 unique volunteer projects over the course of 2018. The public can select from projects and register online to participate. Upon successful completion of the challenge the projects chosen will provide an estimated community impact of $7.2 million.
