Success Story

Safe Harbor provided services to a survivor through the hotline, support group, shelter, and then housing services. This survivor initially called the hotline unsure if she was experiencing domestic violence. The survivor detailed the isolation, control, and physical abuse that she endured at the hands of her partner and her child's father. This survivor was referred to the program's weekly support group, which she attended for 2 weeks before making the decision to leave her abuser. This survivor worked with an advocate to create a safety plan for leaving the relationship and then moved into the program's shelter. After entering the shelter, this survivor created an advocacy plan with her advocate that included applying for multiple government benefits including supplemental nutrition assistance and childcare assistance. This survivor was assessed for housing assistance and received an offer to participate in a housing assistance program. This survivor utilized the program's transportation services to go to job interviews and tour different properties. This survivor was then able to lease a property and move out of the shelter. This survivor and their child continue to attend weekly groups for survivors. The survivor has expressed gratitude for the services that the program was able to offer her when she had no support system to lean on.
