United Way, City of New Orleans launch Gentilly Ridge Fire Relief Fund to support 117 impacted residents

NEW ORLEANS – United Way of Southeast Louisiana, in partnership with the City of New Orleans, launched Thursday the Gentilly Ridge Fire Relief Fund to provide housing and recovery support to the 117 individuals displaced by the devastating Sept. 3 fire at the Gentilly Ridge Apartments in New Orleans East.

100% of proceeds will directly support impacted residents as UWSELA and partners work to help them secure new housing and rebuild their lives.

“In Southeast Louisiana, we know that disasters can happen in an instant, leaving families struggling to find a safe place to live. Through this relief fund, we’re ensuring that over 100 of our neighbors don’t face this challenge alone,” said Michael Williamson, UWSELA President and CEO. “With the community’s support, we can help them find a new place to call home and begin rebuilding their lives.”

When disaster strikes, families living paycheck to paycheck, many part of the ALICE population (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), are hit the hardest. This fund will help ensure every family displaced has access to safe, stable housing and the resources they need to recover.
