Women United is a network of women leaders committed to creating meaningful change in Southeast Louisiana and beyond. As part of United Way Worldwide, we’re connected to a global movement of women who are leveraging their collective power to make an impact in communities around the world. Locally, as a leadership group of United Way of Southeast Louisiana, we harness the strength of our members to drive real change right here in our region.
Since our founding in 2002 by a group of 50 local women, Women United has invested more than $4.2 million into local programs that support women, children, and families in our region. We helped enact meaningful, systemwide change, most notably influencing public policy to protect domestic violence survivors and strengthen early childhood education. Today, we continue to unite purpose-driven women who are informed, engaged, and ready to lead. Through their time, talents, and resources, we help build a region where all can thrive.

We support programs that directly serve ALICE families, which stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. In Southeast Louisiana, 49 percent of households are struggling. They earn above the federal poverty level but not enough to afford essentials like housing, childcare, and healthcare. ALICE workers are the backbone of our communities, including educators, grocery clerks, delivery drivers, and health aides. Yet too often they face impossible choices. Pay my heating bill, or buy healthy food for my family? Pay for childcare, or work reduced hours to stay home with my child? Buy the medication I need, or pay the rent? These trade-offs do not just hurt ALICE families. They affect us all.

In 2002, a group of 50 dedicated women formed the Women’s Leadership Council of United Way of Southeast Louisiana. Now, fifteen years later, we are restructuring the group to increase our potential for impact and the diversity of our membership. Our mission, to support the unique health and human service needs of women and children in Southeast Louisiana, remains the same.

Alice Glenn, Chairwoman
Alice Franz Glenn believes in servant leadership. As Executive Vice President of New Orleans & Company, she practices this with a focus on the organization’s mission, culture, operations, government relations, and strategic initiatives.
Through her education, career, and volunteer efforts, Alice has developed expertise at the intersection of the political, nonprofit, and business communities. Over a two-decade career, Alice has worked on political campaigns and with organizations such as the United Way, Loyola University of New Orleans, and the Louisiana Restaurant Association. Most recently, Alice served as the founder and CEO of Glenn & Associates, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in strategy, fundraising, and community affairs that helps organizations leverage advocacy and philanthropy to maximize impact. She has supported government officials, including a term as Legislative Assistant to Louisiana House of Representatives Speaker Pro Tempore Walt Leger. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, and a master’s degree from Tulane University.
Alice’s philanthropic and volunteer efforts are focused on gender equity, family support, and education. She is active with a number of nonprofits, currently serving as President of the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI). Locally, Alice serves on the Executive Committee of the
Louisiana Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO), Citizens for One Greater New Orleans, the United Way of Southeast Louisiana’s Campaign Cabinet; the Executive Committee of Women United; an Institutional Advancement Committee member for the Academy of the Sacred Heart; and the Advisory Board for the Humanities and Social Sciences at Tulane’s School of Professional Advancement. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of New Orleans after serving on its board of directors three times, including as Board President in 2018-19. She has chaired and served
on numerous event committees.
Leveraging her breadth of experience, Alice regularly speaks on the ways in which government, philanthropy, and business intersect, coalition building, gender equity & leadership, and the history of the nonprofit industry. She is a graduate of programs such as the New Orleans Regional
Leadership Institute (NORLI) and The Institute of Politics.
A south Louisiana native, you can often find Alice enjoying live music, Louisiana culture and traditions, and good food. Along with her spouse, Brodie, and two children, she is proud to call New
Orleans home
