Insights From a United Way Intern

I’m a senior at Birmingham-Southern College graduating with a degree in Global Comparative Studies and Spanish. When I began weighing my options for how to spend my final term (a four week “semester” at BSC where students can take a class on campus, participate in a travel project, do some sort of independent study, or just take the month off!) I realized that it was time for me to get some real world experience and do something outside of the classroom.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

My name is Kate and I’m a student at Tulane.  Over the past few months, I’ve been working with United Way of Southeast Louisiana as a component of my Women’s Legislative Leadership class. As part of my research, I looked at the state of mental health care accessibility in Louisiana and wanted to share my findings as we enter Mental Health Awareness Month.

Community Impact Volunteer Conflict of Interest

CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY DEFINED

Volunteers serving on the Grant Committee enter into a special relationship with the United Way and agencies funded by or requesting support from the United Way. This relationship requires protection against possible conflicts of interest, or appearance of conflict of interest. To ensure grants which are fair, responsible and free of personal bias, and which reflect the leadership role that donors have assigned to the United Way, the following define conflict of interest for volunteers serving with Community Impact.

Community Impact Volunteer Application

United Way of Southeast Louisiana (UWSELA) is seeking 35 community volunteers to serve as grant reviewers to help read and rate program grant proposals for our Blueprint for Prosperity program grants. UWSELA is seeking knowledgeable volunteers; especially those who are subject matter experts as peer reviewers to objectively evaluate a competitive group of grant applications against the criteria in the Blueprint for Prosperity Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA).
