Make United Way Part of Your Mother's Day Tradition

Urban dictionary defines mom as "The woman who loves you unconditionally from birth, the one who puts her kids before herself and the one who you can always count on above everyone else. Just telling her your problems makes you feel better because moms always know how to make it all go away.  Even if you fight, know that she's just looking out for your best interests."  Mom: what an amazing role to play, and often it's a role that is thankless and goes unnoticed.

National Volunteer Week 2017

We’re wrapping up a week of thanks and acknowledgement to all of our incredible volunteers during National Volunteer week. Louisiana Equal Pay Summit

The Office of Governor John Bel Edwards in partnership with United Way of Southeast Louisiana hosted the 2017 Equal Pay Summit at the Shaw Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, March 10th.  UWSELA Chief Operating Officer, Charmaine Caccioppi, serves as Chair of Governor Edwards' Louisiana Women's Policy and Research Commission while Kim Sport, UWSELA Public Policy Chair served as the co-chair of the Equal Pay Summit.

Read Across America

March 2nd marks Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the National Education Association’s (NEA) nationwide campaign to get kids excited about reading.

Theodor Seuss Geisel wrote his first children’s book, Cat in the Hat, in 1954 in response to a report that suggested children were having trouble learning to read because their books were boring. With Dr. Seuss’s books and caring adults, millions of children have loved learning to read ever since.

2017 Gumbo Cook-Off

The 17th Annual "Got Gumbo?" Cook-off is in the books. United Way of Southeast Louisiana invited the city’s most talented chefs and first-rate restaurants to put their dishes up against the competition in our annual parade of gumbo in the beautifully renovated Grand Ballroom at the Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans.
