Serving as Chairwoman of Women United has truly been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. During my tenure, I witnessed firsthand how the power of collaboration and the sharing of ideas can spark innovative solutions to challenges that women and children face across Southeast Louisiana. While every community has its own unique needs, I’ve learned that exchanging perspectives always leads to new strategies and opportunities for progress.
And now that I’m also participating on the Women United Global Leadership Council, I fully appreciate that while we may not always replicate what works elsewhere, we certainly benefit from the diversity of thought and experience that comes from being part of a national movement.
One lesson that stands out from my journey is the importance of stepping outside your comfort zone. True leadership often means venturing into unfamiliar territory—taking risks, embracing new roles, or tackling issues that may initially feel daunting. Growth rarely happens when we stay where we feel safe. By daring to lead, by advocating for change, and by facing challenges head on, I found not only my own confidence but a new appreciation for the resilience and creativity within our group.
Women United encourages each member to try something new, to voice bold ideas, and to trust that the support of strong, passionate peers can turn uncertainty into opportunity.
I’m so proud of how our local Women United group has consistently punched above its weight, especially in the realm of public policy. The dedication and leadership shown by individuals like Charmaine Caccioppi and Pam Allison have been truly inspiring. Their commitment to creating positive change in our region reminds me daily of the importance of supporting, uplifting, and advocating for one another.
As I pass the gavel, I’m ready to support Alice Glenn, our new chairwoman, and the entire United Way of Southeast Louisiana leadership team in any way I can. There truly is no better feeling than knowing that as you depart a role, you are passing the baton to an unbelievably qualified, engaged, and capable leader.
I am ready to continue this work. Whether it’s helping to recruit new members, volunteering my time, or representing Southeast Louisiana on the Global Council, my commitment to Women United continues. It continues because I know the burden is heavy and none of us can carry it alone. It takes all of us working together to uplift our region and the people we serve.
For those considering joining us, please know that the camaraderie and passion among the women of Women United make every challenge worthwhile. Together, we empower each other to create lasting change. At the heart of Women United is a community that believes in the transformative power of women working together. To me, Women United means being part of something bigger—a movement that empowers us to build a brighter, more equitable future, side by side.
