March 2nd marks Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the National Education Association’s (NEA) nationwide campaign to get kids excited about reading.  

Theodor Seuss Geisel wrote his first children’s book, Cat in the Hat, in 1954 in response to a report that suggested children were having trouble learning to read because their books were boring. With Dr. Seuss’s books and caring adults, millions of children have loved learning to read ever since.

2017 Gumbo Cook-Off

The 17th Annual "Got Gumbo?" Cook-off is in the books. United Way of Southeast Louisiana invited the city’s most talented chefs and first-rate restaurants to put their dishes up against the competition in our annual parade of gumbo in the beautifully renovated Grand Ballroom at the Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans.

United Way of Southeast Louisiana, the IRS and partners nationwide will hold the annual EITC Awareness Day on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 to alert millions of workers who may be missing out on this significant tax credit and other refundable credits.

We want taxpayers to be aware of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and correctly claim it if they qualify.
