MOVING FAMILIES FORWARD

More than 1.5 million school-age children across our nation face homelessness every year. When children are homeless, the stress, trauma, and academic disruptions they experience lead to problems in school. With a stable home, families thrive and students succeed academically.

EMPOWERING FAMILIES TOGETHER

United Way of Southeast Louisiana and the Siemer Institute are partnering to work with families facing financial hardship through our Prosperity Centers. Families meet one-on-one with a trusted, compassionate professional – a case manager – who can guide them out of crisis and into stability. Case managers work intensely with families for up to 18 months to create a plan for the family to stabilize and thrive. This two-generation (2-gen) approach meets the needs of children and adults simultaneously to foster academic success and break the cycle of poverty. We focus on the entire family and align services that meet their needs to support their success.

All of this is done to keep children in their school of origin and give them the opportunity to succeed.
