Funding the Future: Early Childhood Opportunities

Register Now to Attend the Taping of Louisiana Public Broadcasting's Louisiana Public Square

Access to quality early childhood education and childcare is the single biggest indicator of future educational success and worker retention. Louisiana passed legislation to restructure and improve early childhood options, but changes have been largely unfunded.

How could the next governor and a newly elected Board of Elementary and Secondary Education alter the early childhood arena? If funds do come, what should be prioritized? How can improving early childhood programs improve the state’s educational outcomes, workforce availability and overall economic outlook?

Louisiana Public Square looks for answers on this special town hall presentation where audience members may have the opportunity to address questions to the panelists.

“Funding the Future: Early Childhood Opportunities” airs statewide Wednesday, October 21 at 7 p.m. on LPB HD and in New Orleans on WLAE-TV.

This program is made possible through funding from Entergy Corporation.

Ready Louisiana, a coalition of over 30 private and nonprofit organizations statewide, including United Way of Southeast Louisiana, believes $208 million is required by 2020 to address the early care and education needs of Louisiana's working families. We encourage all partners and their supporters to help fill seats at the taping and to hold a ‘viewing party’.

Viewing Parties are a great way to familiarize you and others with the state policy and data associated with increased investment in Early Childhood Education (ECE) programming and to plan for upcoming activities. It's crucial that we make the most of this exciting opportunity to have statewide ECE policy better understood by all Louisiana citizens.

Should you agree to HOST a “Funding the Future: Early Childhood Opportunities” Viewing Party:

As people gather at your home or your Nonprofit, Business, School, or Childcare Center, to watch the Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) town hall presentation, let them know why you care so deeply about this issue and about how they too can help spread the “Funding the Future: Early Childhood Opportunities” message to people in their respective neighborhoods, PTA, with colleagues, close personal friends and family throughout Louisiana.

Find all the tools and resources you need to host a successful Viewing Party.

Watch the ECE video developed by United Way of Southeast Louisiana and funded by Entergy.

Take the survey! How can improving early childhood programs improve the state’s educational outcomes, workforce, and economics?
