To my Daughter on International Women’s Day

March 6, 2020

“An equal world is an enabled world. Individually we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.” - InternationalWomensday.com

Each day, I wake up with the hope that I can make a difference and, ultimately, leave this world a little better for you and your brother. And I’m fortunate to come to work at United Way and be part of a family of powerful women who care so deeply about you and others in our community.

I believe whole heartily that when you surround yourself with strong, empowered women, you stand to benefit from their knowledge, life experiences, and passion. I feel lucky that I get to interact with so many of these women in my work with Women United.

This diverse group of women with a ferocious love for their community works tirelessly to create a more equitable society for ALL women and children. They challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations, and celebrate women’s achievements.

My hope is that one day you can find a group of women to surround yourself with that inspire you daily, and, in your own way, you can leave this world a better place. Call them a tribe, a village, a reckoning force – Women United’s remarkable collection of members has taught me that your voice alone can make a difference, and when you combine your voice with other empowered women, you become unstoppable.

Never stop fighting for what you believe in.
